The Government Printing Department was established in 1900 by the North Eastern Rhodesia Governmnet in Fort Jameson now called Chipata and later moved to Kalomo in 1911. The first Government Gazette was printed and published by the official Government Printer on 17th August 1911. When Lusaka became the capital of Northern Rhodesia in 1935, the department moved to Lusaka in the same year.
